What Is Love?

What Is Love? by loving-death
"The man smirked to himself. This was perfect. He'd finally be able to catch his student's interest in Communication Skills. It sounded like a simple question, really. But a question such as 'What is love?' can boggle the mind, leave anyone, young or old, lost for words. It seemed easy; only three little words. But once his students started working, the cogs turning, he could tell that this was harder for them than they had thought.
But for once, the entire high school classroom at the end of the hall, was silent--filled with thought and wonder.
One by one, his small class --about only 10 or so people--got up from the seats, a victorious smile plastered to their face, and stuck their little post-it note under the scrap sheet of paper hanging from above, the question scrawled across it.
Even after almost every student was done, the room was silent. No one spoke a word; the mystery and magic still wafted in the air, filling their noses and tingling their senses.
The final bell rang, and just as fast as the wonder came, it left, clinging to the student's book bags as they rushed out the door.
Chuckling lowly, the teacher smiled as he looked over at the post-it notes sticking to the wall. His eyes scanned over every sticky note; his smile vanished.
There was 'Happiness' and 'heart warming' and even 'A DRUG(:'. But there was one, in the very center, written in blood red colored pencil; it had been the last student to get up and stick it on there. He remembered that the young teenage girl had tried to use the other students post-it notes to her advantage to hold down all the loose corners, so that they wouldn't go flying.
'What is love?' he had asked, and she had answered.
"PAIN"...."
