Description: Sighing heavily, the man drew his over coat collar above his ear, shivering. He shook his shoes off and thawed them by the heater, the warm room melting the cold away slowly.
It was just another business trip; all the way in New York in the middle of winter. And for a Floridian such as himself, he was having a difficult time adapting to such climate. Looking around his apartment, his tired eyes scanned the chipping white paint painted sloppily on the walls, the ice cold tile floors, the broken lights that left him in the dark, the ripped fabric on the very couch he was sitting on. Slowly, he stood up and took off his mittens and all of his coats. When he was just left in his work pants and T-shirt on, he sat back down, feet and hands reaching out for the small source of heat, begging for attention. His cell phone--the same one that he had forgotten to take to work in his haste to not be late--lit up brightly, vibrating. Raising a brow, he slowly picked up the small device. It was cold against his finger tips, sending a small chill down his spine. '7 New Messages' it said. Clicking the green button, he scanned the number; all of them were from his wife. He shook his head; he was sick and tired of her yelling at him through the phone to get a better job, to stop going off and leaving her alone, only to bring home the smallest amounts of money. Reluctantly, he looked through them. The first 5, was what he had expected. 'Get a better job.' and 'I'm sick and tired of this.' and 'Start being a man and support your wife.' The 6th one, however, was different. It said, 'I love you, honey." This shocked him. No, it wasn't as if she had never said those words to him; she would say it almost every night before they go to bed. But the next one, was the one that surprised him the most. 'please, come home...' The man leaned back, and thought deeply to himself. 'please come home...' She had never said that to him. Ever. Why would she want him home? Didn't she want him to make money? To support her? He shook his head. And hit the 'Delete' button.
